Optimization Of Old Models: 330mb to 110mb
When I first started working on Small RPG I made the critical error of pbr everything. One material was the size of the entire map combined. The UV maps were randomly generated. The PCK file was 260mb which is too big for uploading to itch and at the time I gave up on it.
I have made tens of models in the last year and a half since starting this project (sketchfab). I know a lot more than I once did about modeling and texturing. I was able to get the unzipped file down to 110mb and I'm not done yet. There were 4 texture maps assigned to each material so in Blender I started to bake all of the materials for each building into one albedo map. I still have to fix a couple of buildings but I love the result so far.
At one point the .pck file was at 330 mb al I thought I really fd up. I just had to remove all of the things I replaced. Which included going through and fixing all of the dependency issues due to deleting something without removing it fully from the scene
